Aye Write

On 5 March 2011, I was honoured to be invited to speak at the Aye Write book festival in Glasgow on a platform with Ray Perman, author of The Man Who Gave Away His Island. Our event had to be moved to the main hall due to demand which was very gratfiying. Ray’s son, Dougal is Director of Inner Ear Ltd., a communications company in Glasgow and he very kindly recorded our session to a very high standard.

As an author, it is rare to hear one’s own voice. What’s more, Dougal recorded the question and answer session which provides an intereresting insight into the questions folk have about land in Scotland. You can listen to Ray Perman reading from is book here. I then question Ray about his book.

And you can listen to my reading incuding the origins of the phrase “The Poor Had No Lawyers”, municipal corruption in Fortrose, the colonisation of Rockall, and the theft of a common in Aberdeenshire. This is followed by a discussion with Ray and a question and answer session with the audience.
